Litigation support program
What does it mean by litigation support program? In simplest way, we can say that the program which provides support to the attorney or law firm in the course of litigation can be called as a litigation support program. What is the need of support program to litigation? During a period in which a case is being litigated in the court, there is a large amount of information which is being provided by both the parties. The data or information accumulated is so vast in nature that, to keep track of it is in itself a big job. The attorneys which are trying the case in the court do not have time to handle this job, but it has to be done by somebody because the information is very important for the litigation. So to solve this problem and to help the attorneys in the litigation, support program was introduced, which can be called as litigation support program.
Many times the attorneys need help in keeping track of the information which is collected in the case. The litigation is a process which is changing daily so the attorneys have to keep updating the legal issues, theories and facts which are opened up in a trial. The litigation support program tries to help the attorney or the law firm to organize all the knowledge they have collected. The program helps them to organize, categorize, and manage the data in such a way that it is easily accessible to them. It also helps the attorney to locate the exact information at the exact time.
There are two ways in which litigation support can be provided one is the manual litigation support program and second is computerized litigation support program. In manual litigation support, the support can be provided with the help of a simple index or an index card. Simple index means list of all the important facts, legal issues as well as related case laws in that particular case. An index card is the next step of simple index. Simple index provides a list of major legal issues, facts, theories etc, and then the index card provides a list for every item in that simple index. There is also computerized litigation program which means the software providing the litigation support. Irrespective of whether the support program is manual or computerized, it is a fact that the litigation support program is an essential part of legal system.
